Turbo Maintenance

March 10, 2020 @ 6:00 am - 5:00 pm

In order to minimize disruption to researchers, ARC-TS will be performing a migration of the Turbo Research Storage filesystem on Monday, March 9, 2020, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Maintenance Details

When:

On Monday, March 9, 2020, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During this time, your Turbo volume should not be used at all until an “all-clear” has been given. We will give this “all-clear” through email and on our twitter at @ARCTS_UM.

What you need to do:

Linux:

If you have a Linux server mounting a Turbo volume, you should work with your local Unit IT Support staff to ensure that your volume is unmounted during the maintenance period to ensure that no issues occur with your data.

Windows or Mac:

If you have a Windows or Mac mounting a Turbo volume, you should not use your volume during the maintenance period, and you should either restart your machine, or log out or log back in after the all clear is given.

Questions:

If you have any issues with your Turbo volume after the maintenance, please reach out at arcts-support@umich.edu and we’ll help solve your problem.

Why this work is being done:

The hardware that makes up the current Turbo filesystem is being retired and will be replaced. The networking that comprises the Turbo architecture is also no longer produced and will be replaced.

Both clusters are currently in operation at this time, and we have copied the 2.75PB of data and volumes from the old cluster to the new cluster. We are in the process of verifying that all data is truly synchronized as expected, and ensuring each of the forms of authentication work as expected on the new cluster. We are also copying changes of the data between the old cluster and new cluster daily to ensure that data remains synchronized, to minimize the time it takes to synchronize everything on the last day.
